Construction work on several key development projects in Likoma District is set to begin after Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Charles Chilambula officially handed over project sites to contractors.

The projects include the completion of the Chima Outpatient Department (OPD) block, the District Commissioner's office, the construction of culverts, and the completion of Senior Chief Mkumpha III's official residence.

Chilambula said the projects, funded through the reformed Constituency Development Fund (CDF), are expected to improve public service delivery, strengthen infrastructure, and enhance access to essential services on the island. He noted that the funding will also help upgrade health facilities in Likoma and Chizumulu to enable them to handle more medical cases locally.

The Deputy Minister further warned contractors against corruption and urged them to deliver quality work within the agreed timeframe.

Likoma District Commissioner Abubakar Nkhoma assured the public that the district council will closely supervise the projects to ensure they are completed on time and meet the required standards.

Speaking on behalf of the contractors, Steady Builders Managing Director Steady Mkumbwa pledged to complete the projects within the agreed 90-day period.
