The Government of Iceland has committed US$4 million towards development projects in Machinga District aimed at improving access to education, healthcare, clean water and other essential services.

The projects include the upgrading of Mbanira Dispensary into a fully-fledged health centre, the construction of classroom blocks and teachers' houses at Mapundu and Mauwa primary schools, and the installation of water kiosks to improve access to safe drinking water.

The funding will also support gender-related initiatives and strengthen community resilience to climate change.
Speaking during community entry meetings on Friday, Senior Chief Mizinga described the projects as a significant boost to the area, saying they would improve education, maternal and child healthcare, and help reduce school dropout rates, particularly among girls.

The chief also pledged the community's commitment to ensuring the projects are successfully implemented and completed to the required standards.
